Mais mulheres na política

Abstract

Women face a historical disadvantage within social structures and, despite important achievements over time, profound inequalities of opportunity persist, particularly regarding access to positions of power. The ideal of equality, proclaimed since the French Revolution and disseminated worldwide, was not immediately realized, as evidenced by the long struggle for women’s suffrage. In the Brazilian context, the article highlights key historical milestones that marked significant progress in women’s political rights, including figures such as Celina Guimarães Viana, Azira Soriano, Bertha Lutz, and Carlota Pereira de Queirós. The study also examines recent legislative developments, with particular attention to gender quotas for female candidacies, seat reservations, and campaign financing. These mechanisms are presented as essential tools for increasing women’s participation in politics, fostering female empowerment, and strengthening a society genuinely grounded in equality.
